Personal Description:
I’m a passionate tutor based in Cape Town with a strong background in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Chemistry. I hold a BSc in Chemical Technology, BScHons in Materials Science, MSc in Materials Engineering and I’m currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Cape Town, where I apply advanced maths and science every day in my research. I enjoy helping students build confidence in subjects they once found challenging and showing them that with the right support, they can achieve great results.
Tutoring Experience:
I’ve been tutoring for several years and have worked with students at both high school and university level. I’ve taught General Chemistry to first-year students, helping them build a solid understanding of core concepts and problem-solving skills. In addition, I’ve also helped many students prepare for exams in Physical, Organic, Analytical, and Inorganic Chemistry, focusing on past papers, tricky topics, and effective study techniques.
At high school level, I tutor Mathematics and Physical Sciences for Grades 10 to 12, guiding learners through theory, worked examples, and exam practice. At university level, I’ve tutored second and third-year mechanical engineering students in materials science in mechanical engineering, and manufacturing science courses. I’ve also supported honours students with engineering performance of materials course, helping them understand complex ideas and apply them to assignments and projects.
My broad tutoring background allows me to adapt to different academic levels and learning needs, ensuring each student receives clear explanations, structured support, and continuous progress toward their goals.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is learner-centered and focused on understanding rather than memorising. I break down complex topics into simple, relatable concepts and use real-life examples to make learning engaging. I encourage students to ask questions and think critically, building their confidence and problem-solving skills. I also track progress and adjust my methods to match each student’s pace. My goal is not just to help students pass, but to help them understand, enjoy, and master the subject.
