Information About Lianne - Alexandra tutor - (1 review)
This is how 4 referees rated Lianne:
I am a passionate teacher at heart and have been involved in teaching and training for over 20 years. I've worked with adults and children in both formal and private settings, working with groups as well as on a one-to-one basis. Improving literacy is my focus.
As a teacher, I am known to be intuitive, patient and caring. Having lived overseas, I know how challenging and stressful it can be to live and work in a country where you and your children are in the process of learning the language.
I'm creative in nature and usually have a project or two on the go. Due to the fact that my job is fairly sociable, I maintain balance in my life by making time for quieter moments, which are spent with family and friends or reading, painting, cooking and walking.
I lived and worked in Asia for 11 years where I worked as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. I worked in a formal school environment and tutored at the same time. Prior to that I was in adult literacy training as well as software training - teaching from beginners through to advanced level students. In South Africa, I have worked as a primary school teacher, as a school librarian and as a tutor. I've worked extensively with both adults and children from all walks of life, here and internationally. It has been an inspiring journey.
Learning should be an enjoyable process. I strive to build confidence in every person I teach, as confidence is fundamental to the learning process. I believe that every learner is unique and comes with their own set of strengths and weaknesses.
Learning to read, write and spell does not happen overnight. There is no quick fix. It is a process that takes time, patience and dedication, especially if your child is currently experiencing difficulties at school. They need someone who won't give up.
Learning to communicate in a second or third language takes a lot of commitment. It involves more than the acquisition of vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Understanding the culture of a language and the context in which it is used is important too. However, it is equally important to have the opportunity to practice English conversational skills in a relaxed and stress-free environment, where constructive feedback can be given, without the fear of embarrassment.
I prefer to have only a few clients at a time that I dedicate my time to, customising a programme to meet their needs and then working with them until they are up to grade level.
I have teaching space in Bordeaux South as well as Strathavon in Sandton. Please contact me if you feel I can help.
