Personal Description:

I am a recent graduate of Rhodes University with a BSocSci in Linguistics and Anthropology. I love tutoring because it allows me to share my passion for language, culture and communication while helping students make sense of ideas that might feel overwhelming. There is something deeply rewarding about watching a concept “click” for someone; I enjoy being part of that moment of clarity.

I have always had a natural affinity for languages, which is what drew me to both my degree and to tutoring. I feel inspired by the opportunity to pass that joy on and to help others see language not just as a subject, but as something fascinating, powerful and intriguing. As a people person, I thrive on conversation and connection and I genuinely enjoy engaging with students about the topics we explore together.

Tutoring Experience:

Linguistics 1 Tutor: Linguistics and Applied Language Studies Dept, Rhodes University
• Tutored undergraduate students in Linguistics 1, covering syntax, phonology, morphology and sociolinguistics
• Facilitated small-group sessions, promoting active participation and comprehension
• Assisted students with academic writing and critical reading skills
• Collaborated with Honours and Masters student colleagues to provide effective support
• Marked assessments, tests and assignments of students

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in breaking down complex ideas into simple, clear steps until they truly make sense. I am experienced in tutoring university students, but am also willing to tutor high school students. The use of humour and a relaxed tone often help my students feel comfortable, because learning works best when you’re not anxious or afraid of being wrong. I only move on once you genuinely understand what’s happening and I consistently check to make sure that explanations are understood properly. There’s no pressure to “get it” immediately; mistakes are treated as part of the process and something to be learned from. My goal is to create a space where students feel supported, confident and capable of learning their subjects at their own pace.
