Personal Description:

Experienced teacher of English with an MA (Honours) in English from Auckland University. I am a NZ registered secondary school teacher with a Diploma of Teaching from the Auckland College of Education and endorsed by the NZ Department of Education. My main teaching subject is English although I have also taught other subjects in the Social Sciences area in the secondary school system. Moreover, I have also helped primary and Intermediate age school pupils improve their general skills in English. I have the Cambridge University CELTA Certificate for teaching English to foreign students and have had much experience teaching ESOL to young, school age learners as well as adults from overseas.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been mainstream high school teaching and also undertaken after school tuition, for many years here in Auckland and also in the UK where I taught GCSE and A levels English which demand a high level of competency in English literature and language. My teaching experience in English, here in NZ, has included NCEA (levels 1,2 & 3) as well as the International Cambridge course (IGCSE and A levels). I have also had some experience teaching in Intermediate schools here in Auckland. Furthermore, my teaching practice has also included teaching English to foreign students at Auckland based language schools, where I gained experience teaching Beginners - Intermediate levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I live in Epsom which is central Auckland and I prefer to tutor at my place where I have access to many teaching resources. I have found that tutoring one to one works best for students because you can focus on their individual and particular learning needs as well as build up a good working relationship based on mutual respect. I have found that most students often need help with spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, writing skills, how to prepare for examinations along with specific coursework tasks from their school. My students' progress and results in their English coursework and examinations invariably improve, significantly, as a result of my tuition. I am available to teach during school holidays if so required.
