Personal Description:

First Session half price!
I have a Degree in English Language and Grammar. I have a further PGCE with a specialism in phonics for reading at an early age. I have been working at a school in England for the past 5 years, where I received record reading results in the Y1 and Y5 assessments. The school was also awarded the Gold standard mark for reading. I am a specialist with programming an coding within the computing curriculum. I have a passion for teaching maths and helping children to understand complex life problems including fractions, percentages, ratio etc. I provide a welcoming and enjoyable tutoring experience, for children of all ages.

Tutoring Experience:

I have previously taught in England for 6 years.
I have taught a full curriculum to Y1, Y3 and Y5, giving me experience of all subject knowledge and any gaps in knowledge that may need filling.
I have been leader of three subjects: Computing, technology and Outdoor learning.
I am PGCE trained as a Cumbria Teacher of Reading.
I have achieved 96% pass in reading test for an early learning class of 32.
I am now working in Primary school in the Bay of Plenty, so will be gaining experience of the schooling culture in NZ; Currently working in Y5/6
Qualified Middle leader for Primary Education in England.
Registered SATs assessor for UK Government.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to make tutoring enjoyable. This is especially important as New Zealand offers so many other activities for children that I would aim to capture thier interest. The first session will be a assessment session; this is where I will learn what the next steps in learning are for the pupil. From this, I will devise a plan of teaching and activities (both digital and written) using my expertise. Using short assessments, You will be able to see the progress made by your child over the coming weeks. For reading, focused guided reading sessions, one to one reading, shared reading and basic phonics work come together to make a confident and coherent reader. Going back to basics in maths is usually the key to solving more complex problems, finding that gap in understanding and addressing it can usually lead to rapid progress.
