Personal Description:
Hi there,
My name is Shauna and I am a full time English, German and Social Studies teacher. I am passionate about literature, languages, literacy and innovative learning that engages hard to motivate, hardworking and gifted and talented students. I have a love for all learning areas and my favourite part of teaching and tutoring is seeing my learners unlock theirs'.
My strengths are in making learning meaningful, the learning accessible and helping students figure out what learning strategies work for them so that they can be more independent in the classroom.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching Secondary School English Years 9 to 13 for 6 years and Junior Social Studies for 3 years. I am also experienced in teaching Scholarship level English and am a former NZQA exam marker.
I also have experience working with students with a range of learning needs and am a specialist in literacy, writing and connected curriculum. Additionally, I have facilitated and lead programs to accelera**Contact Detail Removed**arning in literacy across all core subjects: English, Math, Science and Social Studies.
Tutoring Approach:
As a tutor, I always aim to create a meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for my learners that build skills, confidence and resilience. I usually begin by setting a targeted formative assessment to gauge the ability level of my students, and to plan out our next learning steps. This allows us to then set academic and goals and work towards these through a range of carefully designed lessons and activities.
For NCEA and Scholarship students, we can work to devise a differentiated study/revision plan specific to each students needs and interests. I wholeheartedly believe that creating a safe, engaging and challenging learning environment is key to each learners success and growth.
