Personal Description:

I am a New Zealand registered primary school teacher. While being born in German, I grew up in New Zealand and have mainly lived here ever since. In school my main subjects were music, maths, and the sciences (physics, chemistry, and biology). At university I completed a BA majoring in Music, but also took papers in maths and physics. After completing my Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (primary) in 2012 I have worked as a primary school teacher until the end of 2016. In 2017 I took a year to travel around Europe but am now back in New Zealand.
I am an accomplished musician and play a variety of instruments; violin, viola, cello, guitar, ukulele, trombone and I also enjoy singing. As a violinist I have gained my ATCL perfomance qualification.
I am also an experienced swing dancer having been both a teacher and competitor for a number of years now.

Tutoring Experience:

Over the years I have enjoyed being involved in teaching positions within a variety of settings; from classrooms and camps with children and youth, to giving adult swing dancing lessons.
My previous teaching experience is as follows:
Jan, 2015 - Dec, 2016 - Year 7 teacher and specialist in Music, German, and Technology at Waihi Boys Preparatory School, Temuka, NZ
Jan, 2013 - Dec, 2014 - Year 6-10 teacher and specialist in Music and Science at Ashburton Christian School, Ashburton, NZ
Jul - Dec, 2012 - Year 4 teacher at Timaru Christian School, Timaru, NZ

Tutoring Approach:

I really enjoy working with individual students as I feel this is where the most progress is made. The success in these one-on-one sessions is both exciting and rewarding not just for the student but also for the tutor. The key a good tutoring session is about listening. Taking the time to really listen to what the student already understands and where exactly the edge of their knowledge is. From here it is a matter of taking that prior knowledge and extending it in way that is straighforward to understand.
