Personal Description:
I am an experienced tutor who has been tutoring for nine years. During this time frame, I have completed several degrees: a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Auckland, a Diploma in Applied Theology at Carey Baptist College, and a Bachelor of Theology (Hons) with first-class honours at the University of Otago. Currently, I am undertaking a PhD in theology by distance through Otago.
Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader, a movie buff, a passionate runner, and an enthusiastic baker. Other than these activities, I enjoy travelling and tramping with my wife, Jaala.
Tutoring Experience:
Over my nine years of being a part-time tutor, I have tutored over 30 students. These students have differed in their year level, curriculum, personality, ethnicity, and gender, and some have had learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, auditory-processing problems, and language disorders. I have also spent time in the classroom, in 2013 I volunteered at Green Bay High School as a teacher aide. Together these different work experiences have offered me insights into NCEA and Cambridge, the NZ school system, and the struggles of teachers and their students.
Tutoring Approach:
I approach tutoring based on the needs of your child. I ensure that I customise my services based on their personality, their potential, and their year level. I believe in making learning fun and relatable through tapping into my students interests and into relevant, contemporary topics. My role is more than a homework helper and instead involves offering strategies, techniques, and tips that can advance your child’s learning. I have a passion for learning and my goal is to stir up this same passion in my students. My goal is to draw out the best in my students through them discovering their real capabilities. This approach ensures that I offer a holistic service to my students and their families. If this sounds like what you're after then please get in contact.
