Personal Description:
Kia ora! My name is Emily. I am a full time secondary school English and History teacher. I am a passionate and innovative teacher, always working to instill confidence and resilience in my students. I completed my bachelors degree in 2018, and then went on to gain a masters in Education. I am always looking for new ways to grow, and try and instill this desire in my students!
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching secondary school English and History for 4 years now. Prior to that, I was a university tutor for a range of literature and history papers. I have also worked for Kip McGrath, EduKingdom, and numerous families as a private tutor.
Tutoring Approach:
I consistently strive to create a diverse and engaging learning environment for my students. I usually start off with a targeted formative assessment to gauge to ability level of my students, and to plan out our educational direction and next steps. We then set academic goals and strive to achieve them through a series of specific and targeted lessons. Through these measures, I will be able to explain where your child is sitting in regards to the reading and writing strands of the New Zealand Curriculum.
For NCEA and Cambridge students, we can work to devise a differentiated study/revision plan specific to each students needs (and what they enjoy). I strongly believe that all learning should be a positive experience. If the students do not enjoy what they are doing, or find satisfaction in their work, a different approach is needed! I will always strive to make that happen.
