Personal Description:

I am a teacher from England and have been a New Zealand Resident for nearly four years.

I am passionate and dedicated to develop your child's confidence in Mathematics and help them reach their potential. I am hard-working and reliable and will ensure each lesson is fun, engaging and educational.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught Mathematics to children aged 5-11 years of age, therefore I have an in-depth understanding of the progression of teaching Mathematics across the curriculum. I also tutored a Year 5 student in 2020 for a year and helped her progress to the expected Mathematical level for her age.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring is individually catered to the needs of each child, from children eager to accelerate their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics, to children who require additional support. Our first tutoring session will help identify your child’s strengths in Mathematics and their areas of improvement. As Math is cumulative, understanding which areas your child needs support in will help them move onto more advanced topics, for example if your child doesn’t have the foundational knowledge of addition, it will be very difficult to understand the process multiplication. My goal is to develop a strong understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, to develop the child’s confidence to solve other everyday math problems.

I have planned, taught and assessed Mathematics for over five years. I enjoy creating interactive and engaging lessons which encompass a variety of pedagogical strategies. One strategy which is effective is the use of questioning. I enjoy asking real-life questions to encourage higher-level thinking and challenge current mathematical misconceptions. I will be using online PowerPoint presentations, whiteboards and online resources to ensure your child has all the materials required to participate in the session.

The length of my teaching sessions can be discussed but my usual tutoring session is one hour. For an additional cost, I can send homework electronically for your child to complete based on the work taught in the session.
