Information About Courtney - Oratia tutor

Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Courtney. I am a full time secondary school English teacher. I am a passionate and innovative teacher, always working to instill confidence, resilience and enthusiasm in my students. I completed my bachelors degree in 2014, and have been working as a secondary school teacher ever since. My passion for learning seems never ending, and I am currently studying my Masters of Education Practice at Auckland University part time whilst continuing my teaching full-time. I am always looking for new ways to grow, and try and instill this desire in my students!
When I'm not teaching I love to be outdoors hiking, superjetting, wakeboarding, scuba diving and golfing. If the weather isn't the best you can find me exploring different cuisines to cook, practicing guitar or reading.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching English for over 7 years. I currently teach the Cambridge curriculum alongside IB English B. I have taught Cambridge IGCSE English Literature and Language, AS and A2 English Literature for 7 years. I have been teaching IB for 3 years and achieved some excellent results last year with all of my students achieving a 5 or above. My first 5 years of teaching was in the UK before making the move to NZ where I have been teaching for 3 years. Over the past 2 years I have held the role of Level Administrator for Year 10 English and AS Literature and which has provided me invaluable knowledge on curriculum changes, mark schemes, examiner comments and expectations for the exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I am highly knowledgeable, experienced, and organised, with a warm, friendly and supportive demeanour. I believe in a collaborative, interactive and engaging way of tutoring. I incorporate confidence-building into all my lessons as a necessary skill for optimal learning and consistently strive to create a diverse and engaging learning environment for my students.

All students I tutor across all year levels will receive customised help, tailored to your unique needs. I also provide excellent, up-to-date resources to enhance and reinforce your learning experience.

For Cambridge and IB students, we can work to devise a differentiated study/revision plan specific to each students needs (and what they enjoy). I strongly believe that all learning should be a positive experience. If the students do not enjoy what they are doing, or find satisfaction in their work, a different approach is needed! I will always strive to make that happen.
