Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Toronto, in Canada. During my undergraduate there, I completed a degree in human genetics and bioethics, equipping me with a diverse number of specialties. In secondary school, I took modules in the sciences and humanities, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, Advanced Algebra, Calculus, English, World religions, and Sociology.
I am currently at University College Dublin, completing a master of science degree in biomolecular science.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a private tutor for the past 6 years. I started as a tutor for my peers, and then as a tutor for some younger students in my secondary school. While I was in university, I tutored students in their 2 final years of secondary school. Additionally, I worked for 2 summers in an engineering camp at my university, where we taught primary school children different scientific concepts in a hands on, experiential way.
Approach to Grinds:
I like to start by engaging with the student about how they learn best. I am aware that while my strengths might be academic, not every one relates to that in a way that helps them learn. I am a visual learner myself so I can understand how the traditional classroom setting isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Pertaining to specific content, when I am tutoring, I like to ask the student to explain the concept back to me a few moments later, and at the start of new sessions, so I know that there is an understanding in their own terms, and that they aren't just memorizing the things I've said.
