Personal Description:

Hi! I'm an engaged tutor with a First Class Honours BA in Maths and Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, and over 7 years' teaching experience. I attained 585 points in the Leaving Cert, including A1s (H1s) in Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I'm outgoing, friendly and open, and always try to keep a relaxed, yet focused, atmosphere in my classes.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring Maths to Leaving Cert students since 2016 and Philosophy to University students since 2019. Before the pandemic I conducted most of my classes in person, but have since moved all of my work online, teaching with a digital whiteboard. My professional and educational background have given me a really good ability to see things from the student's perspective and communicate difficult ideas in simple and understandable language.

Approach to Grinds:

Over my time teaching I have learned how to help each student according to their own specific needs–whether it is spending time developing a comprehensive understanding of the subject-matter, or simply honing in intensively on one area for an exam.

For Leaving Cert maths students, I tend to start the year by reinforcing the material that is being taught in class, occasionally taking time aside to develop a stronger relationship with the basics. Then, after Christmas time we begin focusing on past papers and exam preparation, following the approach that the best way to build confidence is to practice—becoming familiar with the exam format makes it a lot less intimidating. After each class, I send the student a PDF of everything we have covered.

Regardless of the specifics of the material I am teaching, I like to maintain one thing in my classes: a healthy, relaxed teaching atmosphere, where the student is able to comfortably communicate any questions or concerns. My main priority is to build confidence week-by-week, facilitating a stronger and healthier relationship with the subject.
