"Ray went above and beyond the call of duty in preparing my son, Rory, during his Leaving Certificate year, for the Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP) 1 Exam - a paper designed to challenge the student with questions similar in style to undergraduate Maths.
Ray presents lessons in a way that is instructional, supportive and engaging and Rory always looked forward to attending them.
His positive coaching style and contagious love of Mathematics built Rory’s confidence and gave him the tools necessary to tackle an exam outside the Leaving Certificate system.
This influential period of study helped Rory to decide to study Mathematics at undergraduate level."

"Ray’s tuition delivered an A1 for me in Leaving Cert Higher Level Maths. He is a strong teacher. In particular, his ability to convey a clear understanding of the underlying fundamental concepts in each topic area of the course positioned me to answer, not only the regular exam questions, but also the ‘curve ball’ questions that feature in Project Maths."

"I am in 5th year in school and this year (2016) I took part in the Irish Maths Olympiad, which is a national mathematics contest for secondary school students.
During my preparation for the initial and final rounds I had a number of one-on-one tutorials with Ray. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. He took me through various sample questions and problems, and really helped me to understand the subject matter and also good exam technique.
I did very well in the Olympiad (finished in the top 15 in Ireland!) and I am glad to recommend Ray to anyone seeking a deeper appreciation of maths. "

Approach to Grinds:
As with a language, maths is a skill which must be practiced.
During lessons, a student attempts problems under my supervision.
As they encounter issues, I give hints and simple examples to aid understanding.
Between lessons, a student reinforces their skills through assigned homework.
In this way, a student gains both skills and confidence.

As someone who struggled with maths as a child my knowledge and confidence has improved greatly from my many sessions with Ray.
