Personal Description:

Hi there! I'm Pádraig. I have been teaching in primary schools since qualifying in 2014. I recently took a career break to fulfill a dream of mine to travel South America. I hope to move to Vietnam in the coming months to teach in a primary school abroad for the first time. I enjoy reading, travelling, running and playing the guitar in my spare time.

Tutoring Experience:

I have seven years + of teaching experience to-date: Senior Infants, First Class, Fourth Class, Fifth Class, Learning Support and Sixth Class, which is a nice balance between the junior and senior end curriculums. My most recent class was Sixth Class. I have worked with children with reading difficulties in the past via this website. I have also helped with Junior and Leaving Cert Maths. In my career to-date, I have worked with over 300 students and I always take the utmost care to ensure that every single pupil gets the help they need to succeed.

Approach to Grinds:

I am a patient educator who will not proceed to new topics until I am sure that the previous content is understood fully. I am very approachable when a student asks me a question when they are unsure. I also welcome mistakes - it shows me how you are thinking and also shows what specific area you need help with.

My structure to grinds varies depending on the subject area and level. Primary school Maths grinds will focus on the initial computation and strategy skills of any areas that require attention. Primary school English grinds are reading focused and we will work on novels, comprehension skills and reading skills such as predicting, inferring and connecting. Oral language and grammar games are common with thess grinds too. Primary school Irish will be heavily oral language-based to get the confidence up. We can work on all aspects of grammar and sentence structure too. Comprehension skills naturally follow this set up.

In all, my approach to grinds is one of care, patience and friendly rapport. I aim to get to know the child quickly in order to help the process along smoothly and to create a working student teacher environment.
