Personal Description:

After completing my Masters in Geographical Analysis, I moved to London to complete my PGCE. I started my teaching career there and within 3 years I was promoted to Head of Geography at a high achieving secondary school. This was a tremendous early endorsement of my capabilities as a teacher and of my wider geographical knowledge and organisational skills.

I spent a total of 9 years teaching in London. I was a Head of Department for 6 of these years and a member of the Senior Leadership team at my school. I have recently returned to Dublin to work in a high achieving school.

Tutoring Experience:

As Head, I was responsible for the implementation of new Schemes of Work (SOW) for GCSE and A Level to ensure students were well prepared for their examinations in order to meet their target grades. I implemented a range of teaching strategies to motivate students in their learning. I designed and created a variety of Assessment For Learning (AFL) strategies to ensure teaching and learning were effective across the department. I monitored students’ progress, analysed data and developed intervention strategies to improve outcomes.

I have sustained high academic results as Head of Geography and in 2018, 100% of my A Level students achieved a minimum of a C grade, with over 50% achieving A*-B grades. in 2019, 72% achieved A*-B grades. A number of which have continued to study geography at top Russell Group Universities across the UK. My GCSE students have consistently outperformed other classes and achieved well above the UK’s national average.

Approach to Grinds:

Ideally I would like a structured approach whereby I see the student once a week. Each session would aim to focus the curriculum content. I would like to focus time in these sessions on developing students exam techniques and how to maximise marks using a variety of strategies I implement in the classroom.
