Information About Nancy - Bray tutor

Personal Description:

Hi there! My name is Nancy. I'm a first year nursing student of UCD. I completed the Leaving Certificate in both 2019 and 2020, thus I have a multitude of experience with these examinations.

English is one of the most difficult subjects within the Leaving Cert to achieve a top grade in, but I believe I can share experience and tactics I utilised to attain my H1 in the 2020 LC (that is, the November LC Examinations which were to be sat in the traditional way, not merely the predicted grades brought on by the pandemic). Prior to my college experience, I attended the Institute of Education for three years.

I am bilingual (English and Mandarin), and an avid reader and lover of media in both forms of written and visual. I'm enthusiastic, open minded and willing to adapt to the student's preferred learning style.

Over the course of the coming summer, I will be studying to acquire a TESOL cert, after which I will extend my tutoring to foreign language speakers as well as those undertaking the Irish LC.

Tutoring Experience:

After completing the LC examinations twice, I am intricately familiar with how they function, both how the questions are set and how to approach them. Throughout my studies I have taken great joy in tutoring my peers, and helping others was also a way to confirm my own skills.

I have an in-depth understanding of the qualities an examiner will be looking for within an English essay, a knowledge of which is vital for exam success.

I can also advise on study skills and time management to aid students who may be struggling to cope with the LC workload.

Approach to Grinds:

Unlike other Leaving Cert subjects in which there can be a clear right/wrong answer to each question, English can be quite elusive. The approach is integral to each essay, and there is no simple marking scheme to follow. In my opinion, reading beyond the coursework is integral to obtaining a top grade. However, I am confident in my abilities to lead your study towards continuous improvement.

I will be focused on Paper 1, as the skills necessary to excel in the first lead into success within Paper 2. Should you wish for me to tutor Paper 2, simply list your studied texts. If I am not versed with your choices, I will need some time to familiarise myself before I am confident in aiding you.

I am open and willing to adapt to your preferred learning style, and I am always seeking ways to aid your skills in engaging and interesting ways suitable for you.

I will also provide notes and similar material which I utilised to achieve my H1.
