Approach to Grinds:
I believe in first finding which way of learning is most suited to a particular student, e.g. if they learn visually, by listening, by writing, or by using memory tools such as mnemonics. I then base the method of communicating the information around that.
I am a big believer in understanding while learning - if a student has something explained to them in a way in which they understand it, they will remember it much better than if I simply handed them a sheet and told them to learn it off.
At this stage, I know the marking schemes for the exams like the back of my hand - simply put, this means I can provide the students with the answers that will get them marks.
I provide my own notes for the students, as well as encouraging them to make their own and guiding them in this aspect. We set a topic the week before the tutoring session and I will then organise notes and exercises around this topic. During the tutoring session, I will first complete the exercises as an example, talking through each part. I then get the student to practice questions with my help and finally by themselves, until it is no longer a challenge.
