Hello, I am currently carrying out a PhD looking at stress effects in marine invertebrates, where I also get involved in teaching labs. I have a masters degree in animal behaviour and welfare also looking at stress and pain in marine invertebrates which I got published. I am very passionate about science especially biology and zoology and I hope to spread that to others. I have worked in Italy involved in research on hummingbirds and spend three years in London working at a revered medical research facility. I only moved back so I could start my PhD, I would like a career in a university to lecture, and continue research.
Lecturing in labs in GMIT, I have given tours at Atlantaquaria Galway.
I volunteered in Oregon at summer camps which involved some teaching about the environment and giving a talk on clams for a feature called “creature feature”.
Approach to Grinds:
I would like to start by getting an idea of how the student feels about the subject, what they are good at and how much they know. Let them feel comfortable. Find out where they are getting lost, get an idea on how they like to learn, by doing, listening or watching.
Set up goals from minor to major, have them write down the goals on a sheet of paper and have them keep track of it. Putting them in charge of the "goal tracker".
