Personal Description:
Hi everyone, Dia dhaoibh go léir. I am offering grinds online through zoom. I am an experienced teacher, mother of two and Irish enthusiast. I love Irish but I am also very interested in how we all learn differently and I have an interest in language acquisition in particular. I myself, believe in being a lifelong learner and enjoy upskilling all the time. My other interests include reading, travelling, cooking, listening to podcasts, walking, rollerblading, running, yoga and going on adventures.
Tutoring Experience:
I am a qualified primary school teacher and I have been teaching for 17 years. I work in a lovely school in Cork where I have been employed for the last 14 years. I have taught every class level over the years but have the most experience with the senior classes, having taught 5th and 6th for over ten years. I am currently in special education where I enjoy having the chance to engage with children on a one to one basis. This has been hugely rewarding for me. As part of this role I teach a day a week in a Gaelscoil which allows me to engage in my other passion, Gaeilge! Teaching languages has always been a passion of mine and I have an additional qualification in TEFL where I completed a 4 month course in 2006. I taught English to students all over the world individually, in language schools and on summer programmes. I also taught English to asylum seekers on a voluntary basis after I graduated from college. As well as my primary degree in teaching from Mary Immaculate College, I have a postgraduate degree in teaching from the University of Limerick. I am currently waiting to hear back to see if I have been successful in my application to do another post grad in UCC in special education. My greatest teaching experience comes of course, from my two lovely children at home who also happen to have taught me more than I could ever learn in university! Obviously as I am working as a professional and qualified primary school teacher in a state school I am fully Garda vetted and a member of the teaching council.
Approach to Grinds:
I offer 100 % of my grinds online. My approach would obviously be completely different depending on who I am teaching. I would tailor my lessons and my approach to the individual. We would have a chat before starting the lessons and go through what the student needed, their desired outcomes, starting level and how they like to learn. As each student is an individual it would be impossible to use a one size fits all approach.
