Personal Description:

I have recently completed the Professional Masters in Education(PME) in U.C.D specialising in two subjects over the course of two years; History and CSPE. I am registered with the Teaching Council in History and Politics.

My personal teaching philosophy believes in providing an educational experience that places students at the centre of learning. I ensure my students experience a whole lesson; encouraging resourcefulness, and independent learning.

I am a diligent and dedicated teacher who is very passionate about the subjects I teach. I want to pass on this passion and love I have for History and Politics to students while supporting and facilitating their learning. I am confident that my referees will attest to my personal qualities as a professional, enthusiastic, flexible, and resourceful person.

Tutoring Experience:

I have two years of teaching experience within Irish Secondary Schools. Throughout this time I have gained a wealth of experience teaching History and CSPE, utilising ICT, differentiating to all ability levels and providing a supportive learning environment. I have gathered an abundance of educational resources to support curriculum and cater for all learning styles and abilities. This is a practice I continue to do everyday.

Additionally, having achieved a Certificate in English Language Teaching (CELT), I have experience teaching EFL to a range of classes and age groups throughout the summer months.

I believe that making a contribution to the extra-curricular life is important. I’ve put my knowledge and personal interests to practice and have been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. These include facilitating Student Council meetings and events as the Student Council liaison teacher, coordinating the Green School Committee, leading make-up design of school plays, traveling nationally and internationally on school trips and providing pastoral care through coaching (mentoring) systems.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to grinds is similar to my teaching philosophy. My students are at the centre of learning and my grind lessons will focus on the needs of each individual student. My aim is to lay out S.M.A.R.T goals with each student. With my help students will be able to achieve their full potential while developing important skills and improving their knowledge.

My main duties as a grinds teacher include:
• Planning, preparing and delivering educational and interactive lessons (including clear learning intentions and outcomes for each lesson);
• Developing a meaningful rapport with students and establishing S.M.A.R.T goals specific to each student;
• Adhering to specified subject curriculum and syllabus;
• Using multiple and varied pedagogical teaching and learning strategies to support active learning;
• Devising and producing authentic materials, including audio and visual resources;
• Preparing and setting tests, examination papers and exercises;
• Marking and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work;
• Devising and producing authentic materials, including audio and visual resources.
