Personal Description:

This is Ishita , doing my second master' s in Clinical and Translational Research from University College Dublin-School of Medicine. I have 5 years of work experience in a content solution enterprise where my responsibility involved abstracting and indexing the biomedical journals for our client Elsevier. I had to read scientific articles mainly life science-related and summarize them so that the information is easily retrieved by the users who are mainly scientists or researchers. I guess it is obvious by my work profile and educational background, my interest in the subject biology. I have excelled in the subject from my childhood. Right from the evolution of life to the complex mechanism of the biomolecules has always amazed me. For that reason, I took up bIochemistry for my bachelor's and my master's. The two courses have made my foundation for the subject and the 5 years' work experience has shown me the vast amount of research going in this field at present. Biochemistry is a core science that tells us about the biomolecules in the body, its metabolism, how a faulty production of a biomolecule leads to disease, cellular signaling, molecular biology (DNA, RNA, and protein), etc. It forms understanding for working in a laboratory set up. But my interest in the subject has inclined me to understand the applicability of the core sciences in a real-world setup. Thus, my reason for choosing Clinical and Translational Research for my second master's. The course is about bringing the experiments done in the laboratory to the patient's use. I have a long term goal of involving myself in full-term research work or being involved in the clinical trials taking place in the country at present.

Tutoring Experience:

Back in home ie India, there is a huge concept of home tutoring. I have involved myself for a good amount of two years teaching students. It gives immense satisfaction to nurture young minds and hone their skills to make them fit for the real world. I am still in touch with most of my students who look up to me for guidance in their careers. I am comfortable teaching in conventional way where the students are taught in person as well as through skype. I mainly try to give presentations for the topic as I believe the visual representation of something leaves a greater impact on the growing minds. I always look for the student's and parents' feedback as I believe teaching is a two-way process. I won't be an efficient teacher if my students can't recreate the concept .So effective communication and dialogue is very much important. Once it gets monologue, I believe your message is not reaching the way you expect.

Approach to Grinds:

I am comfortable teaching in conventional way where the students are taught in person as well as through skype. I mainly try to give presentations for the topic as I believe the visual representation of something leaves a greater impact in the growing minds. I always look for the student's and parents' feedback as I believe teaching is a two-way process. I won't be an efficient teacher if my students can't recreate the same. So effective communication and dialogue is very much important. Once it gets monologue, I believe your message is not reaching the way you expect. I try to involve the students in activities that compel them to think out of the box the more you challenge your brain the more you become competent in analyzing the concepts instead of just memorizing it for the sake of exams. Once the students start analyzing the concepts, the subjects become more fun rather than becoming a burden. Even I totally understand that everyone is not interested in all the subjects, some are keen in science and some are in arts or other fields and I totally respect that because being a child even myself was not equally interested in all the subjects. That I will understand by communicating with the students. That would give me a clearer idea about their needs and will help me create a study plan that will cater to their needs.
