Personal Description:

I am an outgoing, sporty woman that teaches both Geography and PE. I am a tutor to sixth years in a large community school in Dublin. I have been teaching in Dublin for a couple of years and I am really enjoying it.

I enjoy going for hikes and experiencing nature which is where I think my love of Geography comes from. This is helpful in teaching as it allows me to easily bring in real-world examples to my teaching which helps with student comprehension.

I have experience in giving Geography grinds - a family member that did her Leaving Cert in 2015 and received an A1 in Higher Level Geography having received one grind per week for a period of three months. I also have experience in home tuition having spent 7hrs per week at a student's home for the duration of his Junior Cert year.

Tutoring Experience:

I am in my fourth year of teaching. I began my career teaching Geography in a secondary school in Cork while also doing one to one home tuition with a Junior Cert student for 7hrs per week. I am currently in my second year teaching in Dublin, teaching both Geography & PE.

I feel that teaching PE helps me in my Geography teaching as it allows me to foster relationships with students outside of the traditional classroom setting. This is something I believe I could take with into teaching grinds as it has helped me in my personal skills with students. Throughout my career I have managed to build student-teacher relationships which really help when teaching.

Approach to Grinds:

I believe a pragmatic approach to grinds is best. I like to bring in tangible examples to Geography as there are so many real-world examples that can help students understand - I believe that applying this type of teaching while focussing on exam papers is what really gets results.

However, I am adaptable and am happy to tailor my teaching to a students needs should I feel that another approach will work best for them.

Ultimately, I take a student first approach to both my in-school and out-of-school teaching.
