Personal Description:

I attained a PhD in Chemistry, focused on Materials Science from UCC. I also have a MChem (4 year undergraduate masters) in Chemistry from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.

I have a great passion for education and a perseverance for assisting my students with their learning experience. I regularly attempt to relate complex problems to "real life" situations to help students understand why they're learning a particular topic and how this would assist them in a day to day situation.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over four years experience tutoring for a range of leaving cert, A level and GCSE, IB and university students. Additionally, I have four years teaching experience to general science and chemistry undergraduate students in both University College Cork and Munster Technical University. Specifically, I have taught general first year organic, inorganic and physical laboratory chemistry to nutrition, biochemistry, chemistry, physics and biology students in both universities. I have also taught inorganic laboratory chemistry to second and third year chemistry undergraduate students.

Approach to Grinds:

My pedagogical approach is to first build up a good rapport with the student. Then it is to identify and target specific gaps in their knowledge, removing confusion around a subject, whilst steadily building confidence by solving more steadily complex problems. This approach quickly evolves into studying and answering past exam paper questions, with students eventually being confident enough to tackle these questions individually.
