Personal Description:

I am an International Relations student (with a minor in French) who is looking to help out any primary/second level student who feels anxious about sitting exams in a language that I offer grinds in. I am incredibly enthusiastic when it comes to the Irish language, I speak it at home and have since I was very young. It is imperative to my family that we keep it alive and I have attended Irish-speaking schools my entire academic career. I believe that it is so important to learn our native tongue, and learn it in a way that is appealing to the many different learning styles of young people in Ireland. I spent three months of transition year living in France and I have been adamant in keeping up that same level of fluency to this day. French is such an important language internationally and can open up many opportunities for students who are interested in travel or international affairs. To know that I have made a student feel at ease with a language would mean a great deal to me.

Tutoring Experience:

I have given multiple tutoring sessions to my peers in school who needed a helping hand in French and English. I have also given Junior Certificate-level students grinds in French and Irish, and am about to guide said students through Leaving Certificate French and Irish. My students have trusted me to enlighten them on topics that they once might have had trouble unscrambling in their minds. I have also worked in an all-Irish primary school, assisting the Junior Infants teacher. This job was very important because studies have shown that young children absorb information like sponges, so having a high level of Irish is imperative or else they could pick up bad grammatical or pronunciation habits.

Approach to Grinds:

As someone who recently underwent that same anxiety that state examinations bring, particularly during these uncertain times, I would hope that these students would feel comfortable enough to ask me anything at all concerning the subjects that I offer, while feeling as though they are making progress. It is my main goal to make each of these students feel at ease with these subjects, and to feel like it’s one less exam to worry about. My approach to grinds is to converse with the students in I want to spread my enthusiasm for Irish and French as I think that languages are such an important part of the education system that could lead to great opportunities in the future.
