Personal Description:

I currently have availability for Junior Cert students but I am fully booked with Leaving Cert students.

I am a highly qualified teacher of Mathematics with over 30 years experience of teaching in two leading independent schools. Additionally, I have worked for many years as an examiner for four different examination boards. I also have extensive experience of working on a 1 to 1 basis both in person and online. My tuition has led to students greatly gaining in confidence and expertise and ultimately achieving exam success above and beyond their expectations. I have enhanced DBS clearance (Garda Vetting).

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked very successfully as a tutor conducting lessons in person but more recently I have moved all of my lessons ONLINE using a combination of Zoom, an Online Whiteboard, and numerous apps. I have focused on teaching students between Year 7 and Year 13.
I use my vast experience as a Maths teacher and as an Examiner to ensure that I, first of all, assess the particular learning requirements of each student.I then devise a tailored, personalised programme of lessons taught in a manner which suits their learning style. During a course of lessons, I seek to ensure full, in depth understanding of the current material, with constant consolidation to aid memory recall and help prepare students to perform at their very best in their forthcoming examinations.
I am equally happy working with students who have gone on to secure places to read Maths or subjects with a strong Maths related component at Russell Group universities or with students for whom Maths is more of a challenge and need help to build their confidence to secure a pass grade.
I have helped many students to attain, or surpass, their target grades.

Approach to Grinds:

It has often been remarked that I have a very thorough, patient and kind teaching style which allows students to feel relaxed; enabling them to grow in both mathematical skill and confidence. I listen carefully to my students and encourage them to ask many questions so that their misunderstandings can be quickly addressed and rectified. We can then identity the main areas that require improvement and lessons are then tailor-made to address these issues.
My work as an examiner allows me to pinpoint exactly what is required to gain marks on a given question and therefore share this knowledge with my students. My work as a teacher allows me to cover the material to ensure that the work is securely understood.

It is therefore my aim to offer a dedicated service to people who want to gain more skill and confidence in their mathematical ability at all levels. I strive to deliver high quality tuition up to and including Leaving Cert / A level.

an excellent teacher!I could learn so much in just an hour.His teaching style allows me to go at my own pace.I found that I was able to move on from a topic much faster than if I was just leaning it in class even though I only have a lesson with him once a week.He goes through many different types of questions that could potentially come up and so once I go and practice I realise he’d already gone through them with me.This makes revision so much easier and I’m not as worried about maths as a subject anymore.

My son actually commented that he had gained more from the 20 or so sessions undertaken with David, than in his 6 years within secondary school. David provides top-notch tuition that is thorough and meaningful, covering points that are often not explained thoroughly in the classroom. Added to this David has a wealth of knowledge, not only of the key topics but also in terms of marking and what an examiner will seek in terms of points acquisition.

To date David has simplified topics which were proving problematic for Luke and his tutoring has embedded these and increased Luke's understanding of the basis of the topics. David has also managed to create a link to other subjects thereby assisting Luke in these subjects also. We are really happy with Luke's progress and with David's professionalism and believe that Luke will achieve his objective in obtaining a good result in higher level Maths.
