Personal Description:

I am a CELTA-qualified English Language Teacher, experienced in teaching general English to students of all levels (CEFR: A1-C1), and in teaching exam-preparation for the CAE and IELTS exams. I have also worked as a tutor of photography for many years, and I have an academic background in philosophy (B.A… Trinity College Dublin; M.A… The University of Warwick).

I find teaching an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable line of work. Students often cite my friendliness and sensitivity to their language needs as my greatest strengths. If my experience teaching students of all levels of competence, from a variety of different countries, is what makes me a highly qualified tutor, I believe that my ability to establish an excellent rapport with my students is what sets me apart from all other well-qualified tutors of English as one particularly worth having!

Please get in touch with me if you are interested in one-on-one lessons, and I will let you know of my availability as soon as possible.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught students ranging from ~13 to 65+ years of age.

I've taught all levels of general English (A1-C1) (C2 = proficiency, and is not taught as such), and exam-preparation classes for CAE and IELTS.

Approach to Grinds:

In general, my teaching methods follow the Cambridge models. In practice, I like to begin by establishing a student's aptitude and determining his or her needs, in order to plan the trajectory of future lessons together. I use a variety of materials from textbooks that both I and other teachers consider to be best, and I like to include more exciting and realistic texts and materials from time to time. I believe in the importance of being flexible in a one-on-one format, and so students' special interests or needs can often be incorporated after having been mentioned (e.g. vocabulary needed for the student's job or finding an apartment; CV preparation; common idioms and phrasal verbs for more natural conversations).
