Personal Description:

I am a 4th year medical student in Trinity College Dublin with an MSc in Neuroscience and five years experience in tutoring students at University, Leaving and Junior Cert level. I am also a native Irish speaker and have spent summers working as a gaeltacht cinnire (camp leader) with Spleodar in Conamara. I am offering tuition in Irish, Chemistry, Biology Maths and Science. I have already helped many students to improve their knowledge and achieve high grades in exams. I know just how challenging exams can be and have amassed plenty of knowledge and skills over my time to improve exam technique.

I also provide a conversational Irish language tutoring service for primary school students, aiming to improve vocabulary, grammar and fluency in a fun and relaxed manner. I truly believe that extra language classes at a young age provide a massive advantage at second level.

Regarding my own academics, I have a proven track record of high achievement in examinations. In 2018, I completed an intercalated Masters in Neuroscience in TCD, achieving first class honours. In 2014, I received 610 points in my own Leaving Cert with A1 grades in Irish, French, Maths, Chemistry and Biology. I also achieved nine A grades at Junior Cert level. Aside from English, I speak both fluent Irish and conversational French.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been running a private tutoring service in Dublin since 2014, specialising in Leaving and Junior Cert science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and General Science), Mathematics and Irish (oral and written).

Furthermore, I was employed by the School of Medicine in TCD for the last academic year (2017/18) as an academic tutor for first year medical students, tutoring in Human Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Ethics. Prior to this, I peer tutored first year students in Gonzaga College, assisting them with homework and exam study for problem subjects.

During my summers at second level, I worked as a gaeltacht cinnire (camp leader) with Spleodar in the Camus Gaeltacht, Conamara, Galway. In this role, I was responsible for looking after 12 students for over three weeks (night and day), running classes and teaching the Irish language to students.

Approach to Grinds:

I have vast experience in education, both as a student and tutor, which has allowed me to craft an effective teaching style. As an academic tutor in TCD, I was trained in the problem-based learning model of tutoring, elements from which I like to incorporate into my tutoring.

In my first lesson, I like to get a sense of the student's current expertise in the subject, their previous results, their areas of weakness and their goals going forward. After a plan of attack for the course has been agreed, I focus on giving my students the tools they need to deal with anything an exam can throw, working through any problem areas together. I share my subject materials where needed, including notes and sample answers, to assist with comprehension and understanding. I focus on setting questions from past exam papers, particularly under test conditions for exam-year students, as I believe experience in the mode that exam questions are asked is critical to success on the day.
