Information About Daryl Zane - Belturbet tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Daryl Zane:
Hi! My name is Daryl. And I want to give secondary school students the best maths grinds that I can. I’m approaching my 4th year of studying mathematics in Trinity College Dublin, and I’m a lover of maths! I’m also someone who’s happy to help anyone with maths. As someone who is still young (I’m only 20) and has had their own recent struggles with maths, I can relate to and empathise with the struggles students have with maths today. And so I aim to combine that empathy with my understanding of maths in order to give any student fulfilling and meaningful learning experiences tailor-made for them!
I took part in a programme called a Classroom Experience as part of the module I did in college called Mathematics Education. During that programme I got the chance to teach some entire classes; during those classes, I demonstrated my skills in introducing new topics to students, developing a topic that had been previously taught, and going through exercises with students step-by-step. The Mathematics Education module also taught me some of the different aspects of maths teaching, such as how one plans lessons, the different types of resources a maths teacher can use, as well as how one teaches facts, skills, concepts and strategies to students.
Approach to Grinds:
During my grinds lessons, I’ll be happy to take the time to fully understand the struggles students have with maths. I think it’s important to get to know each student and their background with maths. I’ll be teaching each student the basic fundamental skills relevant to the area of maths they’re struggling with, before guiding them step-by-step through the more challenging skills and concepts. I’ll deliver each lesson with clear and simple-to-understand language, so that the student gets the right idea behind each topic. I want to promote active learning, so that the student can get some time to wrestle with each concept and discussing it with me. I will talk about each area of maths with relatable examples that’ll help students get the bigger picture. I will give students problems to work with during grinds lessons, and I will emphasise that making mistakes while practising maths on their own is part of the learning process. I’ll give students useful tips and advice at the end of each grinds session, as well as something to think about in preparation for the next grinds session. And finally, I want to teach in such as way that my grinds complement what you’re already being taught in school.
