Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old Post-Graduate Student studying Clinical Neuroscience. I am from the United States living in Galway until July. When I return to the United States I am scheduled to begin Medical School in August of this year. In the United States I studied Biology, Psychology and Spanish as an Undergraduate. I am interested in developing a flexible schedule with my students and their families, in order to meet the students academic needs in a given week, and adapt to their busy schedules and mine. Generally I am most available in early afternoons, evening and weekends.
If your child is not on a traditional school schedule and/or is missing school due to an illness or injury and would benefit from extra support, I am available during the regular school day on most Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Tutoring Experience:
In the past I have provided Grinds for children of all ages, on a volunteer basis and as a paid job. My past experience is both working with students 1 to 1 and in small groups (4 students or fewer). The majority of my experience is in Maths and Science, however I have taught all of the subjects listed in my profile at various points in time.
Many of the students I have worked with are enrolled in typical classes, but uses Grinds as additional 1 to 1 support, because they have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and/or do not mix with the teaching style being used in the classroom.
Approach to Grinds:
My approach to Grinds is student directed. I believe that when a student takes responsibility for their own learning and work, using Grinds as additional support to master the most challenging topics, students benefit the most from Grinds. In the past, I have asked the students I have worked with to engage in independent study and master the material as much as they are able on their own. Following independent study, I use Grinds time with the students to allow them to ask questions, and clarity concepts. I encourage my students to bring study material they are currently covering in class, having already identified the areas where they are struggling in order to focus Grinds for the week on that material.
My goal for Grinds is to help all students develop study skills, which are most effective for their individual learning style. My goal is that each student will be able to carry the skills they develop through to future classes, using the course they are receiving Grinds in as a medium to develop those skills.
