Welcome to my tutoring profile.

Are you looking for a caring, experienced and patient teacher that will asses your child's needs and design a plan that will address those needs? Then you have found the right tutor!

I have a BA in English from Maynooth University and a Professional Masters in Education, also from Maynooth University.

I have seven years' experience teaching English and in that time I have taught both ordinary level and higher level for the Junior Cert and the Leaving Cert.

I have a wealth of experience having taught in a variety of school environments including a prestigious all boys private school, a mixed Educate Together school, two mixed DEIS schools in Dublin, mixed schools in Kildare and even as a supply teacher for a number of months in a school in South London. Additionally, I have worked as a learning support teacher and worked closely with students that have autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia and other learning challenges.

These contrasting environments have equipped me with a wide ranging set of teaching skills and practices. All of these schools have taught me the importance of the student-centred approach, where I adjust my teaching to support the student, not the other way around.

Furthermore, I have experience teaching English As A Language having taught English to Spanish/Basque students during the summer of 2023 and 2024 as part of the Hibernia School of English.

I am also a trained actor and I can use acting activities with your son or daughter to work on their self-confidence. Having confidence is a key part of enjoying school and learning and performing well in exams.

In the summer of 2016 I marked the Junior Cert English Ordinary Level paper and in 2019 I marked the Junior Cert Higher Level Paper. I have a substantial understanding of the marking scheme for the new Junior Cert, I am extremely familiar with the curriculum and I also have vast knowledge of the areas that students find particularly tricky.

I believe that the student's wellbeing and mental health is just as important in order for effective learning to be achieved. I encourage my students to meditate for a few minutes at the start of each tutorial and I give them tips on how to handle the anxiety of school and exams.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach is completely student-centred. I work with the student to identify areas that can be improved and also what that particular student's learning style is. I combine these two aspects to tailor my grinds to suit the individual needs of that student.
