My name is Aoife and I am Science/Biology/Chemistry teacher.
I studied Animal Science, with an emphasis on the Equine athlete in University College Dublin.
During my studies in UCD I was part of the team of genetic scientists who looked at the correlation between a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the MSTN genotype and the association with race speeds in Thoroughbred racehorses.
I also wrote my thesis on the defence mechanism of Sticklebacks fish with regard to fixed action patterns.
I also completed and wrote a study of continuous feeding regimen in domestic ponies in collaboration with the Festina Lente Foundation and UCD's Equine Science department.
I teach Leaving Certificate Biology and Chemistry, and Agricultural Science.
I am fluent in Irish and have been teaching through Irish for the last 5 years.
I have a professional Masters in Education from UCD and am 6 years teaching in secondary level as a Science teacher. I have been giving grinds for 7 years in all my subjects in Wicklow and in Dublin.
I also worked as a tutor and teacher in St. Michael's College Presentaion College Bray, Colaiste Íosagain and Colaiste Eoin, teaching Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science and Irish.
Approach to Grinds:
I use simple, down to earth language, lots of visual aids, diagrams, graphs to convey concepts and worksheet to consolidate learning, I use of exam papers and sample questions to prepare students for likely exam questions. Use of enquiry and active learning when applicable, word games for definitions, mind maps, experiment simulations etc.
