Personal Description:

My name is Aoibhín, and I am a third-year college student studying Business and Law in UCD. I have a passion for maths, as well as a strong ability in the subject. I am looking for the opportunity to pass my love and knowledge of the subject onto others.

I received an A grade in Junior Cert Higher Level Maths, a H2 in Leaving Cert Higher Level Maths and have achieved a mixture of A+ and A grades in all of my college maths modules. In my second year of college, I chose to take Quantitative Methods for Business, a highly complex calculus and integration class, in which I received an A grade.

I am an enthusiastic, friendly and hard-working individual. I love to share ideas and knowledge with others. I am very patient and understanding, and I enjoy teaching. I welcome all students irrespective of age, ability, gender, race or religion.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored maths to young students as part of a voluntary programme in secondary school. The idea was to encourage young girls in their maths studies and give them confidence in their abilities.
I also have experience teaching the Junior Cert Maths curriculum on a one-to-one basis.
I have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Approach to Grinds:

I will try my best to make maths interesting and enjoyable for my students. I aim to do this by giving them a firm understanding of the fundamentals. I will use exam papers, exam-based problems and resources for Junior and Leaving Certificate students so as to familiarise them with the layout and approach of the exam. I will also look at how the exams are marked with students, and how to achieve maximum marks from a question. I believe that the best approach to a subject like maths is a practical one. The most effective way to revise for maths is by practising as many questions as possible. Therefore, my focus will not be so much on rote learning, but rather on learning to successfully apply basic concepts to a unique problem. This is an extremely useful skill, for exams and beyond.

Please note that all tutor classes will be carried out in line with current Covid-19 guidelines and government restrictions.
