Information About Anthony - Donegal tutor

Personal Description:

I was born and raised in the hills of Donegal. Having had a natural flair and burning passion for Mathematics in school, I decided to pursue my interests at NUI Galway. This challenging and exciting epoch included an exchange in Hong Kong. After returning and graduating from NUIG, I continued my mathematical development at the University of Nottingham. Upon completing my course in England, I chose to explore other interests by heading back East. Four years of teaching Science in international schools throughout China was brought to an abrupt end with the emergence of Covid-19. Eighteen months later, and I am happily back home and thrilled to be able to assist you in your Maths hurdles.

Tutoring Experience:

Four years teaching ESL and science in China, a semester teaching statistics to commerce students in NUIG, a summer teaching English in Italy, and two and half years teaching mathematics and applied mathematics online.

Approach to Grinds:

My philosophy is the students usually right. If they are not sure what they struggle with, I will do an assessment, but more often than not what I find is that the student needs to go back to algebra essentials as this is the foundation of all other topics and one which is sadly not taught very well. Once I am happy that they have sufficient competency in algebra, I usually let them dictate which areas they want to tackle next. If their grades continue to fall below expectations, I will usually throw them a few curve by going back and picking topics they haven't studied in a while, instead of them asking me about topics that are still relatively fresh in their minds. For the high achieving students, I always take this approach, and most often give them exam style questions and give them a time frame to complete each question.
