Hi! My name is Anthony and I am a second year Modern Languages (Irish and French) student at Trinity College Dublin. I have a great passion for languages but above all else a passion for education and helping others achieve their academic goals. I also received the highest points in the Leaving Cert in my year in 2019. I am very exam focused and I will be offering grinds in Irish, French and Biology for the academic year of 2020/21 both in person and online- following all health guidelines in relations to COVID19. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me regarding and questions you may have or extra information you may need.
I have had much experience preparing students for oral exams as it is a very strong suit of mine, as well as proof reading and correcting essays and exam papers over the last year. When I was in sixth year myself, I was very involved with helping Junior Cycle students improve upon their languages, but also with homework and study skills across all areas of the Junior Cert Curriculum.
I am also a Trinity Access Programme mentor and I volunteer giving talks and campus tours to primary and secondary school students as well as offering advice, giving tips and tricks when it comes to exam approach and ultimately being a source of contact for the student. Whether it be Irish, French or Biology related, whether it be Financial advice for Leaving Cert students transitioning into third level, help choosing Leaving Cert subjects, a dig out on topics I covered for my own Leaving Cert, etc. I am here to help.
Approach to Grinds:
Irish and French
My approach to language learning will be completely tailored to the individual student. We will start by locating what the student is finding the easiest/ most difficult as well as discussing the material has actually been covered in school. From there we will devise a plan completely catered to the student which may involve extra help with homework, relearning parts of the course, mock exams, etc… We will ensure that the student feels as comfortable as possible when it comes to grammar and sentence structure as this is fundamental in language exams and try to build as much vocabulary as possible. My overall aim here would be to ensure comfort, move at the correct pace for the student and to make the language as enjoyable as possible. Although tricky, languages can be very interesting and it is important that the student has a good relationship with the teacher and a strong understanding of the material to give the best grades possible.
My approach to the Leaving Cert biology course will be very exam focused. We will work our way through the topics on the course and relate it back to the exam itself. We will take note of what years certain topics came up, how the questions were phrased, what you needed to know to answer the question and what information was awarded full marks. Marking schemes and exam papers are essential to receiving top grades in this subjects, as well as correct note taking and revision- all of which I hope to help explain and work on with you.
