Personal Description:

I am a qualified English & History Teacher and have been teaching for the past 5 years in both private Irish schools and internationally.

In 2014 I graduated with a P.D.E in English & History from Trinity College Dublin. Before this, I completed an M.A in Journalism and a B.A in English & History at the University of Limerick and graduated in 2011 & 2012.

After completing my M.A in Journalism I worked for a variety of publications in Ireland and abroad. I try to bring this industry experience into my teaching as it can be extremely valuable when teaching students functional writing and comprehension.

From 2014 to present I have taught in international and Irish schools as well as write at a freelance basis for lifestyle publications.

Tutoring Experience:

I have had the opportunity to teach both the International and Irish curriculums over the past four years. Throughout this time, I have taught English Literature, IGCSE & IB (International Baccalaureate) in schools in Shanghai & Hong Kong. I also taught Junior Cycle & Leaving Certificate (HL) in private schools in Dublin. This experience has enabled me to compare and contrast the international and Irish curriculums, developing a thorough understanding of the value of both.

Approach to Grinds:

My approach to teaching is to introduce critical thinking and inquiry-based learning to students. I encourage students to explore how English is linked to global contexts and to develop a skill set for the exam and beyond. This type of education enables students to discover their unique skills and talents which can then be applied to exam questions/ projects to achieve the very best they can. My aim is to encourage students to develop their perspectives and appreciation for the subject of English by making links to current topics of interest in Ireland and the wider world.
