Personal Description:
A 27 year old mathematics graduate from the Universidad de Complutense, Madrid, where I graduated with a first in Pure and Applied Mathematics. Currently offering grinds in Maths, Applied Maths, and Physics to students preparing to sit the Leaving Certificate Examination in June 2021. I achieved a score of 565 points in the Leaving Certificate, was awarded a scholarship into third level, and achieved an A1/A2 in all the subjects for which grinds are being offered. After a period of time working as a trainee accountant in Dublin, I am now preparing to begin a Professional Masters of Education in order to teach at the post-primary level.
IMPORTANT: Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, all lessons by necessity have been moved online - to be offered through either Skype or Zoom. Based on the current situation, it is likely I will maintain this approach into the new year for the safety of both myself, my students and their families.
Tutoring Experience:
As part of my studies, I completed a module on mathematical education, for which I was required to complete a 4 month placement at a secondary school in my area. While on placement, I worked primarily as a teaching assistant, although I was also given the opportunity to teach certain material myself.
During my studies, I have also given numerous grinds to students preparing for both the Leaving and Junior Certificate.
Approach to Grinds:
I like to go through material slowly and comprehensively - I don't like to leave doubts in a students mind, as I feel that it can lead to a lack of confidence going forward, which has been one of the main problems for a lot of my grind students.
I'm persistent with the material, but I don't like to make the student feel pressured into understanding or embarrassed if they feel the penny is taking too long to drop - every student is capable of mastering the material, sometimes it can just take time to find the point of view that works best for them.
I like to give grinds in a relaxed environment, with as little stress as possible - it is my experience that this is the type of environment in which students gain confidence and absorb the material fastest.
