Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Dom.
I graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 2020.
I've been working as a Data Analyst since then.
I am interested in many different things but one of my greatest passions is learning & education in general.
I love pursuing projects in my spare time. One of these projects is my own Podcast, where I engage in dialogues with a variety of experts within their fields.
One of my great interests is Education which is why I decided to publish my profile on this site.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me I would be more than happy to help.
Tutoring Experience:
I've tutored several students in a variety of subjects and have also be involved as a swim instructor.
Approach to Grinds:
I think it's very important to understand the student first. This means I would take some time to understand what they are challenged by, what is interesting to them, what they find easy, boring, difficult, and so on.
Understanding the fundamentals is really the most important thing, once we really understand the basics of any subject the understanding of the advanced topics should flower naturally. I think this really applies to formal sciences such as Computer Science and Mathematics as it gets more abstract the deeper one goes into the subject.
Once I understand what the student is challenged/interested in I would tailor a programme to develop their understanding of that subject. I would also offer resources to learn more as the internet is a wonderful place to learn more about subjects but it's often difficult to find the right information.
Finally, I would make sure that the student is not dependant on the tutor. The whole beauty of learning is that we must think for ourselves and not depend on others for our understanding. I think my role is to point the student in the right direction and help them develop that natural interest in a particular subject and once the curiosity is there, learning will happen naturally.
So in summary my approach would be:
1. Understand the student: What is difficult, easy, interesting, boring, etc… 2. Develop a program tailored to the student ensuring that the fundamentals are understood as most problems arise from that.
3. Offer resources that are free to use so the student can learn if I am not present.
4. Develop a curiosity/interest in the subject they are studying so learning happens naturally and is not forced.
5. Help the student be independent so I am not needed as a tutor.
