This is how 2 referees rated Whitney:
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Mount Royal University, a Diploma in Disability Studies: Community & Leadership with Distinction, and a certificate in Special Needs Education Assistant with Distinction. In addition, I am in the process of doing my Masters of Art in Counselling Psychology online through Yorkville University, and I anticipate finishing my program by May 2022.
I am passionate about learning and teaching students with diverse learning needs and abilities and helping them reach their full potential. I have work and volunteer experience with supporting students with improving their academic and social-emotional skills, as well as their dancing and swimming skills.
In understanding the importance of balance for physical and mental health, I immensely enjoy going hiking and camping with my husband in the mountains, often taking pictures of nature and wildlife. I love to do yoga, meditation, drawing, and painting, as I find these activities therapeutic and restorative.
I have been working CUPS Calgary Society as a Child Development Facilitator since January 2017, where I work with Kindergarten students in supporting their understanding and application of the Alberta Education curriculum for their grade level and assisting them with completing the required learning activities / assignments expected for their grade level.
From September 2009 to June 2016, I worked at the Calgary Catholic School District, as a Causal Special Needs Education Assistant, where I worked with elementary students in supporting their understanding and application of the Alberta Education curriculum suitable for their grade level and completing the required assignments expected for their grade level.
I am familiar and experienced with using Zoom, Skype, and Google Hangouts, as online platforms for online tutoring.
I take the time to get to know students and their parents, so I can gain information and knowledge about what the student's academic and social-emotional strengths and struggles are. I then utilize and apply a individualized approach in tutoring and supporting elementary students, as all students have diverse needs and abilities that need to be considered and recognized when learning how to best working with them in achieving their academic and social-emotional goals.
