This is how 3 referees rated Tristan:
My name is Tristan, and I am a recent B.Ed graduate from Alberta. While I specialized in Secondary Social Studies for my degree, I have a strong interest in both Writing and the Performing Arts.
My strengths in teaching come from my passion for stories. Both History and English Literature have an abundance of knowledge and wisdom that we can learn from, whether we learn it through real events that happened in the past, or we learn these ideas through interpreting an author's fictional world.
I recently came back from working in the United Kingdom as a supply teacher. I was sent to schools all around London to cover for absent teachers. There, I taught English, Maths, Sciences, PE, Drama, and foreign languages for years 3 to 10.
During my university studies, I also had two semesters of practicums where I taught middle-school Social Studies and Science as well as High School English and Social Studies.
Throughout my schooling, from elementary and well into university, I have been a tutor for my classmates, as well as for younger students taking classes that I had taken in the past.
My most proficient topics of study in no particular order are Canadian History, World Wars History, Essay-Writing, Poetry, Canadian Politics, and Literary Analysis.
I'm very familiar with the standard literature studied in English classes across North America: The works of Shakespeare, Life of Pi, To Kill a Mockingbird, and others. I am also a very proficient essay-writer and teacher of essay-writing.
As for Social Studies, History and Geography are my stronger suits, although I do have experience teaching Economics and Politics as well.
In the Performing Arts, I have been acting since middle school, and have experience in theatre, film, audio engineering, and voice acting.
I prioritize learning the interests of the learner as well as where the learner struggles. By understanding what the learner is good at and what they struggle with, I can use explanations and analogies that make sense for the learner in order to convey what it is they are trying to learn.
People learn best when they can attach new knowledge to something that they already understand well. Once I know how to facilitate that process for someone, I can teach them.
