Personal Description:
I am a retired teacher who has taught extensively English, French and ESL in 2 countries. I have also done much tutoring in study skills and time management and have worked with kids and adults with ADD and other minor learning challenges. Though retired, I am still very much young at heart, lots of fun, highly organized and have a wealth of experiences and knowledge to make even the most challenging or boring subjects engaging and enjoyable. As an IELTS and TOEFL teacher I enjoyed many successes in helping my students reach their goals.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught in a high school and several elementary schools in Canada and then in high school and many private schools in the Middle East. I am most used to and comfortable with either small group or individual learning situations as I believe in this process for success and academic growth. I have a degree in second language acquisition and French, an Ontario Teaching Certificate and even a business diploma. I am a lifelong learner and am always connected to the newest curricula, learning methods and strategies and challenges faced by all learners of language.
Tutoring Approach:
We set a goal, we figure out what needs to happen in order to achieve that goal, we do some magic together, work hard and diligently (both of us) and we reach the goal and then we have a celebration. There is no such thing as a learning disability-for me, it is a teaching disability that needs to be addressed. Anything can be learned with the right teacher, lots of positives, motivation and joy. Forcing or any negative behaviours are never part of what I offer and there is no such thing as "I can't do/get this".
