Personal Description:
My name is Stephanie, and I have graduated from the University of Ottawa with an honours BSc in Psychology and an honours BSocSci in Economics. I am currently working towards graduate studies and becoming a psychologist. I love learning and being able to help others learn. My experience as a student mentor has taught me that we all learn differently and that school can be more than a source of stress - there's more to learning than just studying! When I am not working on research projects or academics, I enjoy reading, yoga, and entertaining my cat.
Tutoring Experience:
I have previously worked as a private tutor at the university and high school levels, as a course facilitator for a university course, as well as a student mentor. I am comfortable tutoring many subjects, namely Psychology (including statistics), Economics (first year courses), Sciences (biology and chemistry), English, and Math. Additionally, I have worked as a student mentor with the University of Ottawa for 3 years, and as such, have extensive experience instructing academic skills such as organization, time management, stress management, notetaking, etc. My work as a course facilitator has also allowed me to expand on my teaching skills by working both with individuals and groups.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring differs depending on the person I am working with - I can either take the lead and come up with a study plan based off areas that an individual is struggling with, or I can guide and support as my client walks me through what they need. I provide many resources so that individuals of all different learning styles can benefit (ex. videos, worksheets, diagrams, illustrations). Especially given the current situation requiring mainly online lessons, I also try to have fun with the topics we are learning - pets, snacks, and fuzzy socks always make sessions better! I am passionate about helping people feel confident in their academics by giving them both the study and organizational skills they need to succeed.
