Information About Sharon

I'm Sharon! I will be a twelfth grade student at Bayview Secondary School in my 2nd year of the IB programme in the fall of 2019. Currently maintaining a high ninety average and placing on the honour list of many mathematics contest (I have also placed top 4% on the Euclid), my hard work ethic has allowed me to be successful within school. However, I do have several hobbies outside of school work (I believe it is important to have passions outside of school to have a balance): ballet, basketball, origami, website designing, and blockchain technology to name a few.
My passion for teaching started off purely because I wanted to help other people. In grade six, I was assigned to teach an autistic kindergarten student how to read. Although it was challenging, it was my first real glimpse into teaching and after many successes with this student, I found a certain happiness in helping a child grasp concepts he/she/they never knew before.
As I entered high school, I had been exposed to many teaching experiences. Every week I would volunteer at my dance studio to teach the younger students how to dance. I volunteered at local community centres to teach students to read. Throughout high school, I have also had many experiences teaching. I have had the opportunity to teach English and Math to my fellow classmates. In addition, I became a math tutor at my school and extensively taught the Grade 10 Math Curriculum. However, my largest experience in teaching has been as a teaching assistant at a private learning centre. In this job, I have had the experience to teach preschoolers to grade twelve mathematics, math problem solving skills, grammar, English, and french skills.
In school, I realized the classes I enjoyed the most were not necessarily the ones that were the easiest, or the most intriguing, or the subjects I took the most interest in. Instead, it was the courses where my teachers were very enjoyable, both inside and outside the classroom. These teachers were always very supportive, engaging, and thorough in teaching their subjects and I try to bring the same attitude towards teaching to my students.
First and foremost, my approach to tutoring has always been focused on meeting the students’ needs. I will always work with the students (and if applicable, their parents) to develop a studying plan that will work for them. This way I can be flexible and adapt to students varying learning styles. I will also prepare weekly notes and assign homework if requested by the student.
I want all the students I work with to be as successful as possible. I will always welcome any feedback or resources that parents or students suggest to make their learning experience better. I am always easy to reach and will always be willing to contact students outside of lesson hours. Feel free to contact me for more information! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
