Information About Shannon - Hamilton tutor
Hi! I’m a 22 year old student finishing up my degree in Life Sciences at McMaster University. I’ve taken a wide range of courses over my academic career and have excelled in all areas. I’ve specialized in science and know most areas of biology, chemistry, and physics, while also having a strong foundation in the mathematics, including statistics, calculus, and functions. I also enjoy the Arts and am minoring in Psychology. I’ve taken English throughout high school and University and would be happy to share my knowledge of essay writing, sentence structure, and articulating ideas.
I’ve tutored fellow classmates throughout my academic career and have always been open to helping others understand concepts through my perspective. Although I’ve been very busy in My own studies in University, I’ve volunteered to help children in reading, writing, and math skills at Frontier college. I’ve also worked in multiple group projects and assignments requiring group collaboration, communication, and application of knowledge. I’m looking to get back into tutoring and share my learning style to those who may be having troubles retaining information.
I am very open, understanding, and encouraging with my tutoring. I believe that each individual has equal potential to learn concepts but may be held back from equal opportunities if they become discouraged about the nature and extent of their abilities. If taken at their own pace and walked through the problem solving process, each student has the potential to gain confidence in their abilities which will reinforce their patience in future studies. Frustration in my opinion is the number one inhibition to learning, but also proves that the student is determined. If channeled properly, this frustration can transform into motivation and confidence that the solution is closer than once thought. By teaching my perspective of problem solving, I plan to improve the students confidence and overall academic ability. I’ve also learned that school results improve over time by changing habits of studying, including increasing study time while decreasing distractions, and so hopefully tutoring sessions will motivate the student to change their habits as well.
