Personal Description:

Hello, I am currently graduating from my Masters of Applied Science At Queen's University from the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
I have an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, from the faculty of Chemical Engineering at Queen's.
In Fall 2019 I am beginning my PhD in electrical engineering.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring for over two years. I have tutored mostly university level courses such as statistics for business students, politics students and engineering students. I have tutored university up to 300 level chemistry and organic chemistry, as well as high school chemistry. I also tutor engineering specialty specific courses such as Chemical engineering 330.
My other teaching experiences are a teaching assistant for 300 level electronics engineering courses and programming courses. I also taught sailing for seven years, which has taught me communication, learning styles and informed my approach to tutoring.
Skills I have to enhance my tutoring ability are programming in C and Java, and coding in R, Matlab, VBA and python.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to begin with an in depth view of the topic basics before working with students on problems involving theoretical and practical applications of basic concepts. Wherever possible I use graphical as well as numerical methods to explain concepts.
I focus on making sure that the basics of all topics are thoroughly understood because I find the difference between getting a good grade and retaining the lessons learnt in a course is down to how well the basics are taught and understood. Once the basics are firm in the student mind, they can be used to work through problems, practice exams, problem sets and course work.
