Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a Canadian born, native English speaker with over eight years of ESL teaching experience. My educational background is in politics and international development and I hold a Masters Degree from the University of Toronto. I am passionate about education, language and travel. I have been to over 35 countries and love exploring new places and meeting new people. My other interests include sports, cooking and politics. I hope to have the opportunity to share some of my knowledge and experiences with my students and engage in lively discussions.

I specialize in offering private lessons (in-person/online) for young professionals and international students who wish to improve their conversational English, reading/writing skills, listening, and preparation for English tests. I also offer tutoring in politics and international development for high school and university students.

* Please feel free to contact me for more information on how I can help you improve, or any other questions concerning tutoring that you may have.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching English for over 8 years and have considerable experience working with students of all ages, levels and backgrounds. I have taught students both abroad, as well in Canada. Most recently I worked at a large language school in Toronto, where I taught advanced level students, many of whom went on to study at colleges and universities across Canada.

As a teacher I have helped students improve a range of language skills including conversational English, grammar, reading/listening as well as gaining the confidence to live, work and study in an English speaking country. In addition, I have experience helping students with preparation for taking major English tests. Whether it is the TOEFL/IELTS test for general, academic or immigration purposes, I can help. In addition, I have considerable experience correcting academic essays and improving writing ability. I have helped guide students through the process of planning, researching and writing academic essays. If you are new to Canada, and/or are unfamiliar with academic writing in Canadian colleges/universities I can help you develop the critical skills you need to succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be fun, interesting and reflect the goals of each and every student. I tailor my lessons to meet the needs of my students and their goals. Regardless of what you would like to improve, my approach is informal, fun and always focused on providing the highest quality of instruction. Let me help you get to where you want to be!
