Personal Description:

I am a university graduate with backgrounds in Biology, Chemistry, and Linguistics who provides one-on-one tutoring in those subjects, grades 6-12. I am also comfortable teaching Elementary and Junior High Math.

Having grown up in a household of teachers and tutors, I am experienced in the types of problems students encounter and how to assist them develop better understanding and habits. I am also lucky enough to have access to a wide variety of practice materials and textbooks that may assist in tutoring you/your child.

Being tutored can be intimidating - I was a very shy child growing up, so I understand better than most how important it is to be patient and make students feel comfortable. Also, having gone through the IB programme myself, I am quite familiar with the IB curriculum and expectations of IB students. If you are looking for an IB tutor, I may be an excellent fit!

Tutoring Experience:

I have 3+ years of experience tutoring Chemistry and Biology. Previously I have worked at Castlerock Research Corp. developing and editing practice questions and learning modules for The Key, the widely used Canadian Diploma exam practice guide.

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience, a very common reason for struggling in a particular subject is having fallen behind in years prior. New material becomes very difficult to process when students are already struggling with fundamentals.

As a result, I like to use an assessment-based discovery to identify weak points. From there, through one-on-one discussions and practice problems we can work together to build both a stronger foundation and, more importantly, confidence. No student can succeed if they already feel defeated. This is in addition to assisting with current assignments and test preparation.

Of course, each student is unique and will respond best to different methods. Part of a successful tutoring relationship is discovering students' strengths and weaknesses and tailoring a program to help that specific student progress.
