This is how 2 referees rated Lina:
Hello there! I am a recently retired teacher (July 2017). Although, I am enjoying the "freedom" of not going to school each and every day, I miss the children and I miss teaching! The last 20 years of my career, I spent with students who struggle to learn: who have not cracked the reading code or who just can’t seem to understand that math concept or students new to the country and trying to fit in or those who don’t ever finish their work… I am most passionate about teaching these students. Students who can succeed but need help. Since retiring, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of students and their families (many of whom I still work with!) The connection I have made with them has been invaluable to me.
I have 31 years of teaching experience in schools. I have taught children from kindergarten to grade 8. I have taught as a classroom teacher, an ESL (English as a Language) Teacher and a Resource (Special Education) Teacher. I also tutored students after school for several years. Throughout my teaching career, I heard parents repeatedly comment “My child is struggling but I don’t know how to help them” or “ I try to help them but they won’t listen to me!” or "I don't understand this new math!" I can help! Contact me for a free no obligation consultation. * Update February 2021 - Since retirement, I have had the privilege of teaching a number of different students, many of which I continue to tutor and I LOVE it! Areas of focus have included: Kindergarten skills including learning to read and print, Elementary (Gr. 1-8) Reading, Writing, Mathematics including Numeracy, Algebra, Problem Solving. During the Covid -19 pandemic, I have had to adjust my teaching methods to include strict social distancing/masking/ disinfecting protocols. Where appropriate, I have also used online teaching as a platform to assist students.
I believe that all children have the ability to learn. If children are struggling with the traditional methods, it is my role to find a different way for them to learn. There is certainly a relationship to be created between the student and teacher. This positive and trust-based relationship can assist In allowing the student to take risks and ask questions, freely. The ultimate goal is for the student to achieve to his/her full potential.
