Personal Description:

Hello everyone and welcome to my profile!

My name is Leon and I'm a professional ESL instructor from Montreal, Canada. I obtained my BA in Philosophy in 2017 and I am currently a part-time student, completing a Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies. Over the past few months, I have been working as an ESL teacher for a Montreal-based, private language school. I am also a freelance copy editor and proofreader and in my free time I enjoy reading, writing, cultural activities and learning new languages. I am a native bilingual of English and Greek and I also speak French and Spanish fluently.

Throughout my academic studies, I have taken numerous courses in linguistics, modern languages (French, Spanish, Italian, German), creative writing, English composition and literature courses and other related fields. All these courses, combined with the philosophy courses I took, equipped me with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.

I also had the opportunity to work twice as a teaching assistant (TA) and I also received two Concordia Undergraduate Student Research Awards, in the summer of 2015 and 2016 respectively. For the latter, I performed research assistant duties (RA) such as data collection, analysis and interpretation, literature reviews, annotated bibliographies etc, I also did some of my own research and my paper was accepted for publication in "Gnosis", the graduate studies journal of Concordia's philosophy department.

All of the above resulted in a passion for academia, teaching, research and writing. I enjoy sharing this passion with others and my ultimate goal is to get you excited about learning, no matter your level and purpose for taking a class.

Tutoring Experience:

- English as a Second Language Teacher, ALI - Académie Linguistique Internationale, Montreal, Canada (June 2018 - Present)
- (1) Teaching Assistant, ITAL 398: Masterpieces of Italian Literature in Translation (Fall 2016) & (2) Teaching Assistant, ITAL 398: Italian Cinema, Department of Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics, Concordia university

Tutoring Approach:

I strive to make my classes relaxing and fun, yet challenging, stimulating and interactive. I use appropriate teaching methods and authentic material suited for the needs of each student. The student is the focus around which I will build an efficient and appropriate curriculum that will help the student reach their goal and objective. I can easily adapt to students' different levels, educational background, purpose for studying English and their objective (whether it is personal, academic or professional). Given my educational and professional background, I offer a wide range of courses such as:

- Conversational English
- Regular classes (all four skills are developed, depending on the needs of each student)
- TOEFL Preparation (also TOEIC and IELTS if requested in advance)
- Academic Writing
- Proposal and Grant Writing
- Business English

Whatever your reason for studying English, I am capable to help you achieve your goal successfully! Learning a second (or third or even fourth) language is a rewarding, challenging and sometimes frustrating experience. Being a language student myself, I empathize with such frustrations, but above all I want to share my passion for language and learning with you!

Looking forward to meeting you!
