Hello to all my future English students, my name is Laura. I am a Native English speaker and have my Level 2 TESL Ontario diploma through the Canadian College of Educators in Mississauga, along with my OCELT accreditation, ICTEAL certification and a BFA. I am an enthusiastic and passionate ESL teacher whose biggest pleasure is watching my students excel and meet their personal English language goals. I offer tutoring services in the Halton Region, (Burlington and Oakville) teaching English as a Second Language .
The idea of being a piece of an individual’s ability to gain self confidence and promote oneself more fluently, no matter how large or small, is exciting and humbling to me. I love the possibility of being able to share, learn and celebrate our many cultures through teaching English. For me, being a teacher is quite thrilling.
I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in the field of Drama in Education. In addition to my TESL diploma and Bachelor of Fine Arts, I have extensive experience in both the theatre and business administrative fields which allows me to offer my students a diverse and dynamic learning environment.
I have taught groups of 8 to 9 students while studying for my TESL diploma and currently volunteer online as an ESL tutor with Nevy’s Language in Toronto. I am very proficient in teaching virtually through Skype and Zoom, and have a strong knowledge of other platforms. I have lesson plans that are engaging, creative and dynamic for students through these teaching platforms. With my teaching I am able to perform a Need’s Assessment with any new students so as to ensure a tailored program is created to fit the student’s learning needs and personal goals. I provide ongoing assessments of student’s language gains and progress using various tools such as providing one-on-one feedback with learner and homework.
My lessons will be geared and tailored to you, the student; your individual needs and reasons you want to learn English. I will do this from our very first lesson by assessing your comfort level using the English language. The next step will be to build a plan that makes sure that you meet your ultimate language learning goal at a pace that you are comfortable with. I make sure to try to engage all four language skills; reading, writing, listening, and speaking in each lesson. The lessons I will provide for you will be student centered, skill building and skill using based on real world tasks. You will also learn pronunciation, grammar, idioms and more. I look forward to meeting with you soon!
